Gabriela Cuevas is the Regional Deputy Director for East Asia and the Pacific. In this role, she oversees the development and implementation of a wide range of programs including civil society strengthening, elections, media freedom, minority rights, youth civic activism, women’s political participation, and others, across the region. Some of the countries she covers include Mongolia, Korea, Timor-Leste and the Pacific Islands. Prior to Gabriela’s appointment to this role, she worked for IRI’s Latin America and the Caribbean division, where she provided strategic support for closed and closing society programs.
Before joining IRI, Gabriela worked for more than six years in the Mexican government where she led social development efforts and supported legislative staff, at the local level. Gabriela holds a Master’s of Science in Foreign Services (MSFS) from Georgetown University and Bachelors in Psychology from the Autonomous University of Baja California.
